Keeping the darkness at bay

Dark times, these. War everywhere, destruction by weather: drought, tornados, earthquakes – hunger, disease. That is the world view. Locally, the same. I stopped watching the news because I could not bear it anymore. “Bad news on the doorstep, I couldn’t take one more step…” (Don McLean, American Pie). It seems the darkness is taking us over. We often feel overwhelmed by the enormity of need, grief, hate, darkness…
