Feeling better? Do you feel more secure?

Well, did you watch President Obama’s Address to the Nation of September 10, 2014? I’ve attached a link for the video of the President’s address. It was refreshing in that he looked directly into the camera instead of swiveling his head to the right and left with his usual teleprompters. For purists, here’s the transcript.

What did you think?

President Obama’s Administration back in 2009 banned the use of certain words when discussing fundamental Islamists, terrorists, the war on terror, thus severely hampering how to write about a threat without naming the monster in the closet. In 2010, it was announced that NASA’s mission had changed from space exploration to “NASA Administrator Charles Bolden said in a recent interview that his “foremost” mission as the head of America’s space exploration agency is to improve relations with the Muslim world.

In January, 2014, President Obama pronounced ISIS to be the junior varsity team. August 7, 2014, as reports spread about ISIS hounding, hunting and killing Iraqis and Christians, forcing one ethnic group to flee up a mountain and then be trapped with no food and water, President Obama authorized food and water humanitarian aide and select air strikes to protect those deliveries. August 28, 2014, he stated he had no strategy to deal with ISIS as it became increasingly clear that ISIS or ISIL or the Islamic State Caliphate was chewing up and seizing territory from Syria to Iraq and was quite successful in holding territory and moving across Iraq. August 20 and September 9, ISIS released videos of the beheading of two American journalists, threatening more. Those videos shifted Americans from apathy and disengagement to two-thirds wanting more military action against ISIS.

Tonight, while saying ISIL is a great threat, and pivoting 180 degrees on his past stated views and policies, President Obama outlined a four point strategy, but assured everybody, Americans and the world, consisting of allies and enemies alike, that there would be no boots on the ground – except for “475 service members” to assist with training and intelligence… Uh huh. Every week, he’s adding to the protection of our Iraq embassy personnel, assistance to be rendered to the new Iraq government, but no boots on the ground. What’s that? Mission creep? He also made a very bold statement: “Now let’s make two things clear: ISIL is not “Islamic.” No religion condones the killing of innocents, and the vast majority of ISIL’s victims have been Muslim.” One false, one true statement. Mostly clearly, the Qur’an (Koran, if you prefer) urges and endorses conversion at sword point, payment of a tax to live, or death. If you’re just catching up, try a quick read of this, Jihad 101. And the true one? They have killed more Muslims than any other group of victims…. Well, yes. They are still, for the most part, still in a world of Muslims, though branching out quickly, steadily and without doubt, stealthily.

Frankly, this is a luxury, “no boots on the ground,” which we will indulge until the homeland gets struck again. I endorse it because we hamstrung our fighting men and women with ridiculous rules of engagement and delay in taking the fight to the enemy. One should never play at the art of war. Fast and swift is a hell of lot better than creep, creep, long and drawn out and, in the end, a failure with the result we will have to go back in or flash-dust the area.

It will take another two strikes for Americans to find they are no longer hyphenated Americans, but Americans only, e pluribus unum – out of many, one. And, then, it will be easy, messy, but easy, to have no boots on the ground. We will turn that area into glass.

Mind, these are just my thoughts. What do you think?

  1. I did not get to watch the president last night. And in general he gives me no comfort or security. I’ll be catching up today on what was said. But already I don’t feel any ‘better’ about it at all.

  2. I haven’t been paying close attention to your side of the border as I’m trying to keep up with ours. Still, I shake my had after reading this post. Neither of our governments seems to realize you must know when to put your foot d.o.w.n. 😦

Another well written post. You know how to lay it out on the table for clarity. Congratulations, Huntie.
